Video Live Class

FSM has the ability to live stream a class using Jitsi. A Jitsi subscription is required to use this service.

Basic Settings

Group Permissions ⇾ Classroom ⇾ Video ⇾ Videos Meeting for any staff you want to be able to start and end live classes

Global Settings ⇾ Video Meeting ⇾ Enable Jitsi ⇾ Yes

Global Settings ⇾ Video Meeting ⇾ Online Client Title ⇾ Whatever you want the tab to say for your students on the online client

Global Settings ⇾ Video Meeting ⇾ Enable Room Password ⇾ No (unless you want to have a room password. But students have to be logged into their PSM to see the video link so an additional password is redundant.)

Starting the Live Class

Starting a live class is easiest from the class roster.

Click on the white space on the calendar to bring up the day list.

Click on the specific class to see the class roster.

Click “video meeting” on the right hand side.

You’ll be directed to the Class set-up page ⇾ Video Meeting Tab. Check that the proper class day and time is in the drop box and then click “start”.

Then change your name as you wish and “join meeting”. This then starts the meeting on the studios side.
You can play with different views and settings right from this screen from the bottom tool bar.

Students Accessing the Live Class

Once the instructor STARTS the class. Students will be able to see it and log in from the Online Client. They would go to the tab that you named in the settings, in this case “live class”. Then they would click on the big green button to join the class. The button won’t appear for them until the instructor starts the class.

Please note: all video classes must be accessed from the Online Client at this time, not the app.

Tips about Live Classes

There is a Jitsi app that students (and studio computers) can also open the class through. This is recommended if a student is using a Chromebook as sometimes that browser blocks the pop-up.

You can turn ANY class into a live class by simply clicking the “video meeting”. However, if you want to know if a student plans to attend live or via video, it is recommended to clone the class and set the location to “online” so students have to register for the online viewing or attending in person.
